The K9's are now field operational. Working with the K9 Scent Detection Unit, you will find they still stay true to there roots.

Margie and others from the Unit members are additionally working with Horses. "We are training Equines to "alert" on  the scent of human remains when in open fields, and large search areas while accompanying the K9's.  Plans to utilize the horses  for specialized searches are in it's development stage. The horses currently have successfully completed the Cadaver Imprinting portion (introduction of specific scent) of their training and will soon begin alert training on human remains in open small wilderness areas. Future plans for Scent Specific Searching and Alerting are being planned as well.  This type of equine training is a new program, and first of it's kind in the Tidewater/Hampton Roads area of Virginia.  More information can be found by clicking on the link below.
